2001 COMPUTER ART DISCOVERY - A RENAISSANCE IN EDUCATION
Sponsored by the Indiana Department of Education

Carolyn White, Instructional Technology Consultant
Dates:
Two-Week Beginning Course in Computer Art, July 9-20
One-Week Advanced Course in Computer Art, July 23-27

For the eleventh consecutive summer, the Instructional Technology and Fine Arts offices of the Indiana Department of Education are sponsoring a two-week course entitled COMPUTER ART DISCOVERY - A RENAISSANCE IN EDUCATION. In addition, a one-week advanced course is offered to teachers who have previous computer experience. The goal of this collaborative effort is to assist teachers in learning to use the computer in the art classroom.

These courses will be conducted at Chesterton High School. Training on the Macintosh and Windows platforms will be July 9-20 for beginners and July 23-27 for teachers who already have computer art experience. The purpose of these high-tech interdisciplinary courses is to provide art teachers with: (1) the skills necessary to use the computer for creative problem solving and expression, and (2) resource materials and methods for incorporating computer graphics into the curriculum. The courses include drawing and paint software applications, word processing and interactive media. Participants will pay a non-refundable fee and be responsible for their own meals and lodging. More information about possible accommodations in the Chesterton area will be sent with registration confirmations.

Please provide the information requested on the attached application form, including the choice of equipment for training, and an option to obtain credit through Indiana University at approximately $158.00 per credit hour for Indiana residents (Beginning Class: 3-4 credits; Advanced Class: 2 credits). The fourth credit hour for the beginning class is available to those who elect to complete additional assignments and projects during the two weeks. Students will be billed for tuition and awarded credit in the fall semester. It is the participant's responsibility to check with his/her advisor to determine if these courses will be accepted for masters or doctoral degree programs. Continuing Renewal Units (CRUs) will also be available (Beginning Class: 33 CRUs; Advanced Class: 18 CRUs) to anyone with a masters degree, or a bachelors plus thirty-six hours.

If you have any questions about the program, contact the appropriate instructor on the attached flyer. Complete the application and return it no later than May 18th, 2001 to:
