Responding to a Food Recall
NFSMI recently developed a packet of materials to assist food service directors and managers in the event of a food product hold or recall. Each package contains a booklet, one 11" x 17" poster, and five brochures. The state agency has about 125 packets available on a first come, first serve basis. We also have one leader guide (available to borrow) that provides an outline for a two-hour training session.
The booklet in each package provides step-by-step instructions on reasons for recalls, responsibilities of manufacturers and government agencies, and roles of food service directors and managers in following procedures in responding to a food recall. The poster is a quick simple reference to prepare food service staff for a potential recall. The brochures provide a brief overview of food recalls and may help educate administrators, parent organizations, or the media.
If you would like to have one of these packets at no charge, please send your mailing address in an email to drice@doe.in.gov or call Diane Rice at 800-537-1142 toll free or locally at 232-0846.
